Our HOP Op-Ed Ran Today. Here’s the Ask.

This morning, The Seattle Times ran an op-ed Oliver and I wrote (our first ever) on the Housing Opportunities Zoning Amendments (aka HOP), the proposal in front of City Council right now to put more homes where they’re needed.

The argument, in one line: a teacher in Rainier Beach shouldn’t have to commute from Tacoma, and HOP is the most concrete chance Council has this year to change the math that leads to this reality for too many. If you want a refresher on the specifics, check out our Substack on HOP.
It’s been twelve days since this roomful of For Seattle members walked into City Hall to testify in support of HOP. For many, it was their first time to City Hall, let alone at the mic. We came because we believe Seattle can grow in a way that works for everyone, and because the people who keep this city running are getting pushed farther and farther out.
The op-ed is the next step in that same effort. It puts the case in front of tens of thousands more Seattleites and gives Council a clear public signal: residents are paying attention.
Here’s what would help right now:
Agree? Email City Council and tell them to pass HOP. It takes two minutes. You can write to all of them at once at council@seattle.gov. Say you’ve read the op-ed, you live in Seattle, and you want them to pass HOP. That’s it. Specifics help, but presence matters more than polish.
